Burnley and Pendle MG Owners Club

David & Enid

David "Having always wanted an MG after parting with a frog-eyed Sprite in 1966, but not having any mechanical abilities to help me cope with the anticipated frailties of a 'Classic', I awaited the launch of the MGF in late summer 1995 to persue my interest.

Having read up on the new model, I borrowed one for a day in December from the local dealer and after my son and I had given it a good workout over the Yorkshire Moors I was sufficiently impressed to place an order for a Red 1.8i on December 22nd, my Birthday!

The car was delivered in March 1996 and ever since it has been used as a second car, purely for pleasure, which it has given a great deal of, having now covered 60,000 miles.

I joined the club in 1996 and suffered much teasing at having a modern MG, but I have had the last laugh as "Fs" and "TFs" are now very much in the majority.

The car has been to Goodwood every year, initially to The Festival of Speed, and for the last ten years to the Revival Meeting, a fabulous event. This year Enid treated me to a track day so I could experience the Goodwood circuit as a driver rather than a spectator.

The car is well travelled, having been to numerous events including the 1996 Monza Grand Prix where Damon Hill could have sealed the championship and also in 2007 at a time when Lewis Hamilton was leading the championship. It has also been to Le Mans on at least 4 occasions.

The car is regularly entered to the MGOC tours and to date has been on tours to Ireland, Espana (twice), Norway and Corsica. in 2008 we will again be taking the car to Ireland, The Italian Lakes and the Le Mans Classic.

Nearer to home the car has completed a goodly number of runs including, The regency Run (3 times), The South Downs Run, The Snowden Run, 3 Kimber Runs, The Jorvik Run, Christmas Cracker Run, The Yorkshire Dales Run (twice), The Black Pudding Run, The pendle Run and numerous Club runs.

The reliability record has been excellent apart from the inevitable blown Head Gasket, and is still running on the original quiet exhaust system. The decision to buy has proved to be sound and we both greatly enjoy our times in the MG and it has enabled us to meet many interesting fellow MG enthusiartics.
